Meet the friendly and experienced team at Sutherland Dental Group! Our staff consists of highly-qualified and motivated team members who are dedicated to providing a dental experience that is second-to-none! From our friendly office staff to our highly-attentive dentists- we are proud to provide Saskatoon and surrounding areas with exceptional dental services.


Dr. Bernie Olson

Dr Olson has been practicing dentistry at Sutherland Dental Group for
over 30 years. In fact he started the practice while teaching at the
College of Dentistry at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr Olson enjoys
providing orthodontic treatment such as lnvisalign and traditional
braces. His General Dental Practice continues to grow as he especially
enjoys treating children and families. He is a member of the Canadian
Dental Association.

Originally from Weyburn, Dr Olson is married to Debbie. They have two
daughters and a son, all married, and four grandchildren. His hobbies
include water skiing, snowboarding and playing hockey.

Dr. Carolynn Oleksyn

Dr. Oleksyn graduated with distinction from the University of Saskatchewan Doctor of Dental Medicine
Degree program in 1998 and has been practicing at Sutherland Dental ever since.

She also holds a specialized degree in Science from the University of Alberta and is a member of the
Canadian Dental Association.

Dr. Oleksyn is proficient and experienced in all aspects of general dentistry for the whole family
providing compassion and a gentle chairside manner.

Always striving to stay current through continuing education, Dr. Oleksyn enjoys cosmetic dentistry and
offers veneers, braces and lnvisalign (clear aligners) to help you enhance your beautiful smile.

She also enjoys hiking and long-distance trekking. She has completed trips to Macchu Pichu Inca Trail in
Peru, Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal, and an Iceland trek as part of the Arthritis Joints in Motion
volunteer program.

Born and raised on a farm in Wakaw Saskatchewan, Dr. Oleksyn has five siblings and enjoys spending time
with her husband Kelly and numerous nieces and nephews.

When asked about the best part of being a general dentist, Dr. Oleksyn enjoys the relationships she has
made with families over the last 20 years.

Dr. Tim Pierce

Dr. Pierce graduated with distinction from the U of S in 1996. At this time he received the children’s dentistry award. Following graduation he obtained a certificate in general practice residency at the Royal University Hospital where he gained experience in surgery and in treating medically compromised patients.

Dr. Pierce was born in Langenburg SK and raised in Saskatoon. He and his wife Tanya have two daughters. In his spare time, Dr Pierce enjoys travel and spending time with family and friends. He maintains an active lifestyle and enjoys participating in triathlons, cycling, waterskiing, and playing hockey.

Dr. Divya Balakrishnan

Dr. Balakrishnan (Dr. Bala) grew up in Nipawin, Saskatchewan and moved to Saskatoon after graduating from high school. She enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan and obtained a degree in Physiology with Great Distinction from the College of Arts and Science in 2009. She was then admitted to the College of Dentistry and convocated in 2013.

Dr. Bala loves practicing a wide scope of dentistry. This includes pediatric dentistry, “white” fillings, root canals and extractions. She also enjoys cosmetic dentistry which can include veneers, crowns, bridges, and invisible braces with clear aligners. She is an avid conference attendee and always strives to learn more about what’s current and on the forefront in her field.

In December of 2017, Dr. Bala married her husband, Kent. Outside of dentistry, she loves to spend time with her family, friends, and her two cats. In her spare time, she can be found golfing, playing volleyball and practicing yoga/pilates. She is also an avid reader, and still enjoys playing piano after many years of studying and performing music.



Receptionists are the first people you see when you walk through our doors. In addition to booking appointments, they perform a variety of office and administration duties, including answering your questions on dental insurance procedures.

Practice Manager

As our dedicated practice manager, Dee’s duties include all the administration details that help keep our office running smoothly on a day-to-day basis.

Dental Hygienists

Dental Hygienists are licensed dental professionals who play a major role in patient education and oral hygiene at Sutherland Dental Group. Some of the common procedures our hygienists perform include: polishing, scaling and root planning, and taking radiographs. They are a tremendous asset in helping you keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Dental Assistants

Dental Assistants are licensed dental practitioners. They assist the dentist during procedures, take radiographs and impressions, and conduct cleanings and oral hygiene instruction on children. Invaluable members of our team, our assistants are essentially an extra set of helpful hands for our doctors.

Dental Therapists

Dental Therapists are primary oral health care professionals who are trained to perform basic clinical dental treatment and preventive services within a variety of practice settings. As members of a dental team, therapists provide restorative dental treatment services, disease prevention and oral health promotion programs to maintain and improve health. Dental therapists also advocate for the needs of clients, assist them in accessing care and refer them to other health professionals for services beyond the scope of the dental therapist’s practice. The dental therapist’s mission statement is as follows: “We are dedicated to improving and promoting oral health excellence for all, respecting diversity and individuality.”

Sterilization Aide

At Sutherland Dental Group, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards for cleanliness and use state-of-the-art sterilization techniques to ensure the comfort and safety of patients and staff. We have dedicated sterilization aides who help us achieve this goal.
